THE LANGUAGE OF THE TURF

Football is a global language. Whether on the mini islands of San Blas, on a football pitch by the Seine, on a field near Moers or on dusty earth in Lebanon, people everywhere speak with their feet and understand the ball. Football brings people together in a similar way to music.

"The Language of the Turf" is all about the fascination and the stories that slam poets can tell us on their pitches in their unique language. Both poetry slam and football promote a sense of togetherness and provide a platform for people to raise their voices and express their commitment and passion. The aim is to inspire people, sensitise them to the game and its surroundings and help them to see the football pitch as a cultural experience. The project will take the form of readings and slam events to actively involve visitors in the topic. Slam poets will write texts on the topic and show the diversity of the different types of football. The audience will judge the texts and select the winning poets.
