Hamburger Bahnhof presents WINNER by Marianna Simnett. On the occasion of the European Football Championship 2024 taking place in Germany, the artist is producing a multi-channel film installation, conceived as a ballet for film in three acts, told from the perspective of football. WINNER picks up on the dramaturgy of the game and dissects its socially constructed power hierarchies, mass psychology and the constant pressure to perform. Through the element of dance, the most passionate moments of football are restaged and radically transformed: Flight of fancy and triumph, brutality and savagery, suffering and defeat.

Simnett's vivid, hallucinatory world extends beyond the screen into the exhibition space and the museum garden. It reflects the architecture and choreography of football and at the same time undermines it. Spatial barriers reminiscent of stadium fences guide visitors through the installation while the film itself wanders through the space, occasionally interrupted by AI vendors offering hot dogs and beer.
